Greg Miller: Gotham

Artist’s Statement:

Before iPhones, Facebook, the Euro, and September 11th there was the world of Gotham. These photographs, originally shot in 1997 on the streets of New York City as feature photographs to appear in New York Magazine’s Gotham section, are a time capsule of 1990’s street life. Looking back only 15 years, we see a simpler time: a couple on Spring St. and Broadway discussing their future together while a street vendor looks on, a woman on Madison Ave. views her x-ray on the street and a man shields the lighting of his cigarette behind his tall friend on the West Side. These moments lure us in and allow us to remember what life was like…back then.
